I do know that Cynthia Martinez from Texas RioGrande Legal Aid has done some experimenting with different communities, as has the Immigration Advocates Network, which is summed up here: http://www.immigrationadvocates.org/ian_newsletter/item.1274-Online_Social_Networks_Making_Your_Connections_Work_for_You.

There is certainly a chance that your organization has a presence on multiple social networks, all for reaching different stakeholders. Which means that the goals need to be specific to the audience and the platform, and the messages, calls to action, and tactics be relevant to those as well.

Thanks for joining in here! Have you seen any good examples of organizations doing just that – using different social networking platforms to reach out successfully to different groups of people?

Thanks again

They may find that depending on their goals that they have community in two places. Funders in one area and customers/clients in another. Defining the goal of a social media strategy will be even more important, and these nonprofits will also need to be careful to make certain that they aren’t leaving out an important group of stakeholders. -K
